The Transformational Breath is a natural
healing method which mobilizes the body's
resources toward wholeness and well being.

Transformational Breath was developed by the International Breath Institute, founded by Tom Goode, N.D., and Judith Kravitz; both experienced breathwork practitioners, and by Counseling Psychologist Caron Goode.

The Institute's research division focuses upon the breath as a modality for enhancing personal well-being and educates the public about its benefits. The Institute's findings have contributed very important information about the breath as a component of wellness and transformation.

Western researchers have
recently rediscovered the breath.

Directed breathing patterns have been a vital feature of many Eastern philosophies for centuries. In the West, the potential role of the breath as anything more sophisticated than the basic fuel for the engine of survival has been largely overlooked. Despite findings which indicate that the mind/body system is healthiest when the breath is unrestricted, there is little information yet being disseminated to the general public about the importance of full and natural respiration.

The founders estimate, from working with people for over twenty years, that over 90% of the population exhibit restricted breathing patterns. Shallow breathing has been linked to a battery of physical and emotional disorders. One test in a Minnesota hospital of 153 heart patients revealed them all to be shallow breathers.

The Minnesota hospital's studies conclude that
we can alter our mental, emotional and physical
states by directing our breath.

Old breath patterns can even be reprogrammed to achieve better health. The most effective breathing pattern developed through the Institute's extensive field trials is the Transformational Breath.

This specific breath uses diaphragmatic breathing to draw in deep, full breaths, inhaling and exhaling without pause. Deep breathing massages the internal organs and tones the diaphragm and abdominal muscles. The high volume of oxygen absorbed by the lungs cleanses and revitalizes the organ systems. Since 70% of the body's many toxins are released through exhalation, deep breathing is also a natural and powerful detoxifier.

The Transformational Breath is so named because of its success as a psychological and emotional change agent. Dr. Alan Hymes has suggested in Science of Breath that there are identifiable associations between specific mental/emotional states and holding patterns of tension in the body. Tension in the neck, for example, announces a different emotional experience than tightness in the chest.

As psychoanalysts have long observed, the body constricts in areas where we experience uncomfortable emotions. One of the most amazing forms of breathing that has arisen from our research, we call The Transformational Breath works at the level of the cause in consciousness as opposed to treating symptoms. And while not a magic wand, those who apply and continue with this easy to learn method do report achieving a deep lasting peace.

To transform means to go beyond form.

Transformational Breathing is an intense process that goes beyond the form nature to access the subconscious realm where mental and emotional traumas are stored. Many researchers believe this suppressed material causes our less than optimal performances in life. Once we deal with these inner issues, we are able to live with greater fulfillment and satisfaction.

We discover we can resolve long-standing trauma, move beyond our previous limitations, and experience bliss consciousness. After we clear our subconscious restrictions, the way is open to connect with the Soul. This connection can lead to mystical experience, great insight, and enhanced awareness of the oneness of all things. These experiences change our perceptions and resolve stress.

Consider the pattern of breathing
as a metaphor of how we live our lives.

As we restrict our breathing, dampen and repress our emotional responses, we are likewise restricting our lives. By focusing our minds and directing our breath, we open ourselves to a more positive and healthier life experience.

How does the breath do all of this?

The ancients spoke of the air carrying prana, life force energy. They said that it was everywhere and that we took it into our bodies from exposure to sunlight and ingestion of foods which stored it. In Transformational Breathing, we postulate that this prana is drawn into the body in great quantity, producing a strong positive energy vibration which alters the electromagnetic field. Negative energy is raised to the positive through the principle of entrainment. As the life force energies enter the body, emotions are lifted.

Because of the change in vibration, trauma is permanently cleared and no longer remains in the energy field. There is no need for analysis, for addressing each issue of the past, or for fixing anything. Once a trauma or specific issue is resolved, mental static is quieted and the connection with Soul becomes clearer.

As this takes place, we remember who we are. When we remember who we are, we act differently and interact differently with our world. As we are changed, the world around us is changed. All of our data tells us that Transformational Breathing provides a greatly accelerated, safe, and effective way to release limitation and create the joyful lives we were meant to live. We invite you to create this experience for yourself.
